General Information

Description - Bayswater Point State Park comprises 12 acres at the tip of the peninsula in the Rockaways that juts out into the Mott Basin on the eastern shore of Jamaica Bay. The goal of the park is to preserve the existing natural systems and restore, if feasible, what has been lost. Fishing and hiking are the two recreations offered.

Attractions - Bayswater Point State Park comprises 12 acres at the tip of the peninsula in the Rockaways that juts out into the Mott Basin on the eastern shore of Jamaica Bay. The terrain is varied, including beach, wetland and woodlands. The trees, other vegetation and organic life make the park an ideal habitat for migrating and nesting birds. The goal of the park is to preserve the existing natural systems and restore, if feasible, what has been lost. Passive recreation, such as hiking and nature study, are compatible uses for the property.

Recreation - Bayswater Point State Park offers an opportunity to fish, hike and enjoy a nature trail. In addition, education programs are in place that make use of the park as an outdoor classroom and laboratory for all ages. The New York City Audubon Society manages Bayswater Point, under a formal agreement with State Parks.

Climate - The Bayswater Point State Park area experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average above 72 degrees Fahrenheit (above 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.
