Connetquot River State Park Preserve
Description - Connetquot River State Park Preserve purpose is to protect and preserve the parcel's natural habitat. A variety of wildlife and plant life make this Preserve home. Waterfowl, osprey and white-tailed deer are abundant. Rare plant life species include trailing arbutus and pyxie moss. Multi-use trails are offered to the public as well as a museum and gift shop. Fishing on the Connetquot River is permitted.

Attractions - Connetquot River State Park Preserve maintains the lands and waters of the park for the protection and propagation of game birds, fish and animals. Deer and waterfowl are numerous, rare nesting birds, including the osprey, are present and there are numerous rare plants, such as trailing arbutus and pyxie moss in their natural habitats. The preserve also has 50 miles of hiking, horseback riding, cross-country ski and nature trails, as well as fishing on the Connetquot River. In addition, the 32-mile Long Island Greenbelt Trail passes through the park.

Recreation - Connetquot River State Park Preserve offers a bridle, hiking, cross-country and snowshoe trails. The park also has a nature trail. Recreation programs are offered. A museum and gift shop is also located at the Preserve.

Climate - The Connetquot River area experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average above 72 degrees Fahrenheit (above 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. Typically Long Island has more than 200 days of frost-free growing season.

Location - Encompassing lands between Bohemia and Central Islip, Connetquot River State Park Preserve is located along Sunrise Highway.

Report: teh park has four great trails including the greenbelt trail. i walked about 4 miles and encountered two of teh trails on my journey. lots of rare plants and wildlife to be seen. bring bug spray, they found west nile there this summer. very quite park, frequented by fly fisherman. hatchery is very cool.

Report: This was a great hike. There are deer all over the place. Its very peaceful and quiet. I would recommend going to the fish hachery it is very interesting.
