Report: Golden Hill State Park is one of nature's precious jewels nestled along the southern shore of Lake Ontario in Niagara County, New York. If you're looking for a secluded, peaceful place to get away and relax, you should definitely visit Golden Hill State Park. The campsite area is set along a grassy rise directly overlooking the vast watery expanse of the magnificent lake. Choice sites for campers and tents are located beneath spreading leafy canopies of stately, mature trees offering pleasant shade. If you prefer, other sites are available in the open air affording bright sunshine and unimpeded views of the evening stars. Historic Thirty Mile Point Lighthouse sits unobtrusively at the edge of the campsite like a sentinel staring out across the waters. Lake Ontario's shimmering surface offers a panorama of shifting light play on cresting waves as seagulls hover near shore and summer sailboats drift lazily in and out of view. On very clear evenings you can see the city lights of Toronto, Canada reflected on the northern horizon. Numerous hiking trails meander along the shoreline and into impressive wooded areas rich with bird life and bounded by Golden Hill Creek. Here we watched playful fish leap above the green surface of the sleepy inland waters. Giant willow trees lined the creek bank providing shade and cover for serious anglers. About a mile east of the campsite is the boat launch area. Access is by road or you can hike along wandering paths that roughly parallel the shoreline. The boat launch ramps are in a quiet inlet protected from the breakers. Ample parking is available for boat trailers. The surrounding vicinity offers numerous picnic tables and grills situated on gently rolling greens of grass with picturesque views of the lake. Although Golden Hill State Park is rather isolated (which is its strongpoint), Niagara Falls with its many restaurants and tourist attractions lies 30 miles to the west. If you desire a quiet sanctuary with a generous selection of amenities, come visit Golden Hill State Park and experience the splendid majesty of Lake Ontario.
