Description - Green Lakes State Park is located in the rolling heartland of New York amidst historic sites, glacial lakes and fabulous golf courses. Green Lakes' 18-hole course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and offers a club house and a pro shop which offers club rental. Total yardage of the course is 6,212 and is a par 71. Winter cross-country skiing permitted on course. Park amenities including camping, hiking, multi-use trails, picnicking and more.
Attractions
- Located just east of Syracuse, this fabulous park is a recreation haven for a variety of tastes. Hiking trails, biking trails, a swimming beach, campgrounds and even a 18-hole golf course attract thousands year-round. In addition, Green Lake is one of two meromictic lakes in the area. The other is Round Lake which is located adjacent to Green Lake. Interestingly, there is no fall and spring turnover of waters as with other lakes. Round Lake is a National Natural Landmark registered at 180 feet deep and Green Lake is measured at 195 feet deep.
Recreation - Golfing, hiking, biking, camping, viewing scenery, picnicking, cabin lodging, children's playground, fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are available to the visitor. The golf course offers a clubhouse, lessons, practice green, power carts, pro shop, club rentals, restaurant, snack bar and showers. The signature golf hole is the 9th hole, originally designed as the 18th, this 484-yard par 5 is all uphill. Motorized cart fee for 9 holes is $10 and for 18 holes, $20. The green fees for 18 holes during the weekday run $20 and on weekends $24. The course is a par 74 with yardage of 5,481. Championship par is 71 and championship yardage is 6,212. Climate - The Green Lakes State Park area experiences average January temperatures from 18 degrees to above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 to above -6 degrees Celsius). It is important to note that this area receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation. Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 inches to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. The heaviest precipitation is received in the region's northeast segment. Location -
Green Lakes State Park is located along SR 290 which runs between Interstate 90 and SR 5. The park is just a few miles east of Syracuse and Interstate 481.
