General Information

Description - Located near the eastern shore of the Hudson River, this park is approximately 2 miles south of Beacon along SR 9D. The park is undeveloped and offers limited recreation opportunities which include fishing, hiking and equestrian trail.

Attractions - This undeveloped park is located along the Hudson River approximately 2 miles south of Beacon along SR 9D. The park's offerings are limited to hiking, fishing and horseback riding. A large field is used by those who enjoy flying kites or flying model airplanes. No other amenities are offered.

Recreation - Highland State Park offers bridle paths, hiking trails, fishing waters and a large open space for flying model airplane and kites.

Climate - The Hudson Highlands State Park area has a varied climate with average January temperatures ranging from above 22 degrees down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.

Report: Haven't been in the highlands today, but northern Westchester is experiencing a 50-degree thaw of 3-in. snowpack and Putnam/Dutchess a thaw of perhaps 8 inches plus rain. With more rain tomorrow followed by a freeze tomorrow night we may be looking at severe ice conditions in the hills. Anyone who's on site please report in.
