General Information

Description - Lake Superior State Park is located along the shores of the lake bearing the same name, this state park is popular with anglers, picnickers, swimmers and hunters. The park offers easy access southwest of Monticello off SR 17B. Hunting grounds are open in the fall during white-tailed deer and wild turkey season.

Attractions - Lake Superior State Park, located southwest of Monticello, offers beaches, boat launches and picnic areas. The park is managed by Sullivan County under license from the Palisades Interstate Park Commission.

Recreation - Fishing, picnicking, swimming and hunting are enjoyed at this small state park. The park is open each year from late May through Labor Day, 9:00 a.m. to dusk.

Climate - The Lake Superior State Park area experiences average January temperatures above 22 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (around 22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. The central Catskills receive the highest precipitation.

Location - Lake Superior State Park is located along the shores of the lake bearing the same name. The park is reached by traveling several miles west of Monticello on SR 17B. Take Doctor Duggan Road south (left) to reach the park or SR 55 south.
