General Information

Description - This information was provided by NEBRASKA GAME AND PARKS COMMISSION

Olive Creek State Recreation area has 612 acres of land and water available to outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Although small, the 175-acre lake supports a variety of fish from largemouth bass to bluegill to two kinds of catfish, making for a diversity of fishing excitement. Boaters are restricted to 5 mph.

This area offers shady primitive tent camping, fishing and picnicking.

Habitat management on the 437 acres of land provides hunters with the possibility of bagging upland game as well as waterfowl and deer. As on all the Salt Valley lakes, only steel shot may be used for waterfowl hunting. Camping and picnic facilities are also available.

Recreation - As on all the Salt Valley lakes, only steel shot may be used for waterfowl hunting. Camping and picnic facilities are also available.

Climate - Nebraska has a moderate climate with high humidity. The relative humidity in this state averages 70 percent throughout the year. Winter temperatures normally average between 20 and 45 degrees F. March brings warmer weather and temperatures above freezing for most of the month. Spring is in full swing by late April when temperatures often reach above 60 degrees F. Summer temperatures reach highs of 95 degrees F frequently, with warm weather continuing into mid September. Crisp fall weather truly begins in October when nighttime temperatures begin to dip into the low 40s. The wettest time of the year in this state is late spring through summer.

(APPROX. 4 MILES) EAST ON PANAMA RD. FOR 1 MILE, SOUTH ON S.W. 110TH STREET TO ENTRANCE, (APPROX. 1 ½ MILES) DIRECTIONS FROM CRETE, NE. INTERSECTION OF HWY 33 AND SPRAGUE RD. EAST ON SPRAGUE ROAD TO S.W. 114 TH STREET, SOUTH ON S.W. 114 TH TO PANAMA RD. EAST ON PANAMA ROAD TO S.W.110TH STREET, SOUTH ON S.W. 110 TH STREET TO ENTRANCE,(APPROX 1 ½ MILES).
