Visitors enjoying the view from Ecola Point
Description - Oregon is a state of incredible beauty and diversity, which is reflected in its numerous State Parks. Quality outdoor recreation experiences await visitors at state park day-use areas and campgrounds throughout Oregon.

Attractions - The Oregon State Parks have around 230 properties scattered around the state. There are and additional 92 Willamette River Greenway parcels, 57 of which have developed visitor facilities, and another five Oregon State Scenic Waterways.

Oregon State Parks offer dozens of historic sites and landmarks from Vista House in the Columbia River Gorge, to Wolf Creek Tavern near Grants Pass.

Recreation - Camping is offered at 50 of the Oregon State Parks. Nearly two-thirds of the 5,500 plus campsites available offer at least electrical and water utilities. Nearly 1,400 sites offer full RV hookup services.

For overnight visitors looking for other than a camping experience, more than half the parks offer yurts or log cabins. A few even have tepees and covered wagons.

Day-use areas offer amenities for family and group picnics, hiking, biking, horseback rides, fishing, boating, whitewater rafting, windsurfing, wildlife viewing, beachcombing, clamming, crabbing, and flying kites.

Climate - The climate in Oregon varies by region. The coastal region and west of the Cascades is generally temperate and wet. Temperatures rarely rise above 85 degrees F during the warmest months and rarely dip below freezing during the winter. Along the coast expect rain and wind during the fall, winter and spring months.

The mountains receive heavy precipitation and cool temperatures throughout the year. Conditions become more extreme the higher you climb. If visiting the region during the summer months be prepared for afternoon thunderstorms and chilly evening temperatures. Snow may be encountered on high country trails throughout the summer months.

Eastern Oregon is a high desert. Precipitation received annually accumulates to less than 10 inches of rain. Summer temperatures often reach 90 degrees in the lower elevations. Winters can be bitterly cold here, although there is little humidity.

Location - The state parks in Oregon are scattered throughout the state.
