Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area
Description - Joseph Stewart and its campground overlook Lost Creek Reservoir, with wildlife, large conifer trees and mountains surrounding the park.

Attractions - Take a hike or bike ride on our 8-mile trail system, through the forest with year-round streams and ample wildlife viewing. Take a swim in the cool mountain water. Rent a boat from the marina and troll the 10 mile lake for trout and bass ... an angler's dream. Or bring your own boat and water skis and spend a few days in the sun. Lost Creek Reservoir is stocked with trout and is accessible year-round.

The park is about 40 miles from Crater Lake National Park, and makes an excellent jumping-off point for an exploration of southern Oregon.

Vital stats: Open March - November. The campground features 151 electrical sites (maximum site 80 feet), 50 tent sites; and 2 group tent areas. The campground offers a volleyball area, hot showers, flush toilets and an RV dump station. Day-use facilities include a picnic area, kitchen shelters with gas stoves, and a horseshoe pit.

Recreation - Joseph Stewart is a good choice for the camping, picnicking, fishing, boating and water skiing. In addition, the park offers group camping, biking, hiking and swimming.

Climate - Climate in this region varies with elevation and from east to west. The western portions of this region experience higher precipitation and more moderate temperatures year-round. The eastern end of this region is much more arid, with warmer summer temperatures and colder winter temperatures. The higher elevations receive abundant winter snowfall which stays on the ground until early summer in the high mountains.

Location - Joseph Stewart is located in Southern Oregon, off Oregon Highway 62, 35 miles northeast of Medford.
