- One of the most exciting services offered at South Beach is kayak tours. Those who register for the activity will launch from nearby Ona Beach (5 miles south) and spend two hours exploring the fascinating Beaver Creek area with a guide.
Attractions nearby include the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse, marine life exhibits at the Hatfield Marine Science Center and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. These are just a few of the opportunities you will encounter when you visit and explore the central Oregon coast.
Special features of the park include a campground, 22 yurts for overnight stays, a visitor center and a gift shop. Yurts are domed tents with structural support, a plywood floor, lockable wooden door, lights, heating, and beds with mattresses. For sports enthusiasts, there is a volleyball and a basketball court.
Vital stats: The campground offers 238 electrical campsites(maximum site 60 feet) and 6 primitive sites. The campground has showers. The park also provides 22 yurts, three group tent areas and a hiker/biker camp.
Recreation - South Beach State Park and the surrounding areas offer a variety of recreational opportunities.
Activities include fishing, crabbing, boating, windsurfing, hiking, picnicking, biking, beachcombing, camping, yurt stays, and viewing scenery.
Adjacent to South Beach State Park, South Jetty offers horse access to the beach, fishing, clamming, surfing, scuba diving and (for the advanced) windsurfing when conditions permit.
Climate - The Oregon coast receives abundant rainfall, mostly between October and April. July and August bring the best chance for clear days. Summer temperatures are normally moderate and almost never hot. Winter temperatures are normally cool at the lower elevations and cold at the higher elevations. Although snow is possible in the lowest elevations, it is infrequent and does not stay on the ground for long.
South Beach State Park is located on US 101, 2 miles south of Newport.
