Description - The Laurel Highlands / Southern Alleghenies Area is host to State Parks, State Forests, National Historic Sites, Battlefields and Memorials. This area's mountains, valleys, rivers, meadows and woodlands make it irresistible for relaxation and recreation. It also has Mt. Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania.

You can whitewater raft, explore old iron-making history and hike on a 70 mile backpacking trail in this beautiful region.
Recreation - This region's mountains, valleys, rivers, meadows and woodlands make it irresistible for relaxation and recreation. The Laurel Highlands Area is blessed with 13 beautiful state parks. Each offers diverse activities ranging from the East Coast's most thrilling whitewater rapids (class V) to placid swimming lakes and picnic groves. Viewing scenery, wildlife and wildflowers is a favorite pastime. Camping is enjoyed year-round as well as the newly created Rails-to-Trails multipurpose trails. Winter sports abound in the area including, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and ice fishing. Climate - Pennsylvania generally has a moist climate with cold winters and warm summers. The Laurel Highlands / Southern Alleghenies Area has cold winter months with temperatures averaging around 24 to 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-4 to -2 degrees Celsius). The area's average summer temperatures range around 68 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 22 Celsius). As expected, temperatures are colder at higher elevations. Location -
