Description - The Friendship Hill National Historic Site preserves the country estate of Albert Gallatin, a Swiss emigrant who served his adopted nation during the early years of the republic. Gallatin is best remembered for his thirteen year tenure as Secretary of the Treasury during the Jefferson and Madison administrations in which he reduced the national debt, purchased the Louisiana Territory and funded the Lewis & Clark exploration. A visitor center and exhibit area are located in the Gallatin House. The park has ten miles of nature trails with maps available at the visitor center. A self-guided audio house tour and "Reflections of Gallatin" presentation are offered throughout the year. During the summer months the Historic Sites offers daily house tours with concerts, special programs and lectures on weekends. The Gallatin House, picnic area, parking lot and restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Audio tours are available for the visually impaired. Exhibits and brochures are available for the hearing impaired. School and educational groups should call for advance reservations. A picnic area is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

School and educational groups should call in advance to let the park know of your plans and if the group is requesting a special house tour or program. Reservations must be made by school teachers requesting the park's Educational Program. The picnic area cannot be reserved and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. A nearby attraction worth the visit is Fort Necessity National Battlefield which is located 27 miles northeast of Friendship Hill NHS on U.S. Route 40. This site commemorates the opening battle of the French & Indian War. Climate - Pennsylvania generally has a moist climate with cold winters and warm summers.
