Independence National Historical Park

Description - Independence National Historical Park interprets the events and lives of a diverse population during the birth of the United States Government. The park encompasses approximately 45 acres and 20 buildings in central Philadelphia. These structures housed individuals key to the rebellion waged against Britain and the development of the new democratic government uniting the colonies. Today the Historical Park offers an opportunity for visitors to enjoy touring the structures, viewing the exhibits and observing and listening to the period-dressed interpreters. An introductory film offers an in-depth look of the Park and its structures. Tours of Independence Hall are given approximately every 15 minutes throughout the day. Limited tours of the Todd House and Bishop White House are available by registration at the Visitor Center.

Recreation - Independence National Park provides visitors with the opportunity to tour historic structures, view interpretive exhibits and watch costumed interpreters. The park Visitor Center is the best place to start any visit. There is a 28-minute orientation film shown throughout the day as well as an interactive computer exhibit. Restrooms are also available at the visitor center. Tours of Independence Hall are given approximately every 15 minutes throughout the day. Limited tours of the Todd House and Bishop White House are available by registration at the Visitor Center. Rangers offer programs at all other 17 sites on a first- come, first-served basis. A seasonal brochure is available by contacting the park visitor center. Climate - Pennsylvania generally has a moist climate with cold winters and warm summers. The Philadelphia area has cold winter months with temperatures averaging above 28 degrees Fahrenheit (above -2 degrees Celsius).
