Description - The Corps' newest lake project on the Savannah River, Iying between J. Strom Thurmond Lake to the south and Hartwell Lake to the north, Russell is one of the finest fishing lakes in the Southeast. It offers both cold and warm water fisheries. Russell Lake has two unique and informative visitor
centers at the powerhouse and the Natural Resource Management Center. Calhoun Falls State Park adjoins the lake.

Recreation - This huge reservoir offers a multitude of water and land based recreation activities. The most popular activities include camping, boating, fishing, picnicking, swimming and hunting.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. The recommended season for outdoor activities at Russell Lake is April through October.

Location - Russell Lake lies in northwest South Carolina, along the South Carolina-Georgia border. It is located 20 miles east of Elberton, GA, and 8 miles west of Calhoun, SC, off US 72.
