Edisto Beach
Description - This beachfront park, rich in Native American history, was originally developed in the 1930's by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Its 1,255 acres include 11/2 miles of beach, a dense live oak forest and some of the tallest palmetto trees in the state. Visitors can observe life in the marsh and comb the beach for seashells and fossils while enjoying a stay in a cabin or at the beachfront campground.

There are 5 two-bedroom/one bath cabins which can accommodate 6 people. The camping area has 64 sites which are oceanside while 33 sites are located near the salt marsh. 5 sites are walk-in tent sites. Enjoy surf fishing or fishing in the salt marsh for flounder, whiting, spot tail and other species. The Spanish Mound trail provides an easy 4 mile hiking loop. Two picnic shelters are available free on a first-come, first-served basis or reserved for a fee. Other facilities include a boat ramp and playground equipment.

Recreation - This beachfront park offers camping, cabin rental, surf and marsh fishing, hiking, picnicking, and boating.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Edisto Beach State Park lies along the Atlantic coast south of Charleston. It can be reached on SC Highway 174, 50 miles southeast of Charleston off US Highway 17.

Report: I have always loved Edisto Island, I spent many hours at Edisto when I was a teenager, and as an adult. I have also camped at Edisto, and I love the feeling of waking in the morning to the sound of the ocean waves. The waves are great for body-surfing or boogie boarding. There is no place like Edisto,it still maintains that wildness that the drew the Native Americans to it.

Report: I just spent two nights on the beach at Edisto State Park. It was very relaxing being right on the ocean. This is a very nice beach with shells galore. The facilities were good. I rented center console boat from Island Outfitters and spent about 4 hrs cruising the edisto river. Very Nice and highly recommend this. For outside dining the sunset grill was good. This beach is next to edisto beach which is nice but I do not like the dikes that have been put in the water. The state park beach is natural. I highly recommend this beach if the outdoors next to the ocean is your thing. Local grocery store - piggly wiggly and shops. For Wal-mart size stores you have to head back to charleston which is about 30-40 miles. Also the 4 mile nature trail is very nice and takes you over the marsh area. Recommend highly

Report: Edisto Beach State park has been our family's favorite camping location for over 10 years. Being lulled to sleep each night by the sound of the waves is most relaxing, but it can be quite hot in mid July. The convenience of a full-service right across the road is a real plus.
