Hickory Knob Resort State Park
Description - The only resort park in the state park system, Hickory Knob offers a variety of recreational opportunities including tennis, archery and fishing. A beautiful 18-hole championship golf course lies along the shore of Strom Thurmond Lake. Located in the Western Piedmont Hunt District, the area is a popular retreat for outdoorsmen. A full service restaurant is open year-round, and visitors can choose a cabin, lodge room or camping for their overnight accommodations.

Area amenities include pool swimming and tennis courts (for cabin and lodge guests only), archery (no charge), skeet (guns, shells, target rentals) and two trails. Strom Thurmond Lake offers fishing for several species of bass, hybrid, crappie, perch and stripers. Boating amenities include a boat ramp, surf bike rentals, and kayak rentals. Meeting facilities include several large meeting/convention rooms to accommodate up to 200 people.

Recreation - This resort style park offers many recreation opportunities. Some of these activities include camping, picnicking, golf, tennis, fishing, boating, kayaking, water skiing, target shooting, skeet shooting, and archery.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer.

Location - Hickory Knob State Resort Park sits along Strom Thurmond Lake, 8 miles west of McCormick off US 378 on the South Carolina-Georgia border.

J. Strom Thurmond Lake - Thurmond Lake is one of the 10 most visited Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation, serving about seven million visitors annually. Many recreation facilities around the lake are actually state parks.
