General Information

Description - This information was provided by NEBRASKA GAME AND PARKS COMMISSION

Located about 6 miles south of I-80 exit 432, 330-acre Schramm Park SRA is another picturesque Platte River area and home of the exceptional Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium. Also the site of the state's first fish hatchery (1882), the old hatch house is now a fish management museum, and there is an interesting geologic display nearby. The picnic areas offer spectacular views of the countryside, and there is a 3-mile nature-hiking trail divided into two 1½-mile segments.

Ak-Sar-Ben Aquarium houses 12 viewing tanks with intriguing displays of native and introduced fish species. Films and slide programs are shown in the theater, and there is a large terrarium. Nominal admission is charged for adults and children age 6-15. Children age 5 and under are admitted free. Summer hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekends and holidays. The rest of the year, hours are 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. In winter the aquarium is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and holidays. In fall and spring, it is closed Tuesdays and Thanksgiving.

Climate - Nebraska has a moderate climate with high humidity. The relative humidity in this state averages 70 percent throughout the year. Winter temperatures normally average between 20 and 45 degrees F. March brings warmer weather and temperatures above freezing for most of the month. Spring is in full swing by late April when temperatures often reach above 60 degrees F. Summer temperatures reach highs of 95 degrees F frequently, with warm weather continuing into mid September. Crisp fall weather truly begins in October when nighttime temperatures begin to dip into the low 40s. The wettest time of the year in this state is late spring through summer.

Location - Schramm Park is located on Hwy. 31. Coming from interstate 80 between Omaha and Lincoln get off at exit 432 and go south approx. 3 miles.
