General Information

Description - Lake Isom National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) encompasses a small area south of Reelfoot Lake in northwestern Tennessee. The site is open for various recreation pursuits on land and water between March 15 and November 15.

Attractions - Visitors will find limited facilities at this park. A public boat landing is available for lake access and refuge roads provide access to upland portions of the preserve.

Recreation - This refuge offers wildlife observation, auto touring, photography, hunting, fishing and hiking opportunities to the public between March 15 and November 15 each year.

Climate - Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Spring temperatures average between 45 and 70 degrees F. Summers full force arrives in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. Cooling fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant foliage colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall color change.

Location - Lake Isom NWR is located three miles south of Reelfoot Lake in northwestern Tennessee.

Report: I had haerd of this place from relatives that have visited there and seen pictures of relatives standing by the sigh. I didn't have a camera to take my picture with the sigh so I scratched my initials in the back thinking someday my children would visit there and see dad had been there. I don't know if there is an historical connection to out Isom family and this site, but I am looking into it and will pass on any information to anyone who is interested.
