Description - Tennessee currently has 54 State Parks from which to enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities. The Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is located in downtown Nashville and provides an informative and interesting place to visit. On the other spectrum, the Cumberland Trail State Park is the only park of its kind in the U.S. This park provides an extensive system of trails to travel north-south across the State of Tennessee. Under the authority of the State Parks is the Hiwassee/Ocoee Rivers State Park. This Park offers whitewater adventures as well as scenic beauty. Other Parks such as the Old Stone Fort and Forts Loudon, Pillow and Donelson hold historical significance, both the founding of our nation and the Civil War. The Meeman-Shelby State Forest offers outdoor recreational activities for those who want to get away from the city.

Many parks are historical sites such as The Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park and the Fort Donelson State Park. Others provide outdoor recreations such as Fall Creek Falls State Park and the Warrior Path State Park. Recreation facilities differ with each property. Recreation - Tennessee's State Parks provide all forms of recreation including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, boating, picnicking, paddling sports, camping, group retreats and viewing historical sites. Climate - Tennessee has a temperate climate with short, mild winters. The average annual snowfall for the state is 12 inches. Spring comes in early March bringing flowering trees and shrubs, and warmer weather. Spring temperatures average between 45 and 70 degrees F. Summer's full force arrives in the region by mid May, bringing warm weather and higher humidity. Cool fall temperatures bring crisp air and brilliant fall colors. Mid to late October is a good time to visit the region to experience the fall foliage. Location -
