Cedar Crest Conference Center is popular for family reunions, corporate meetings and even wedding receptions
|
Description - Twin Lakes is a delightful park located in central Virginia. It is close enough to Richmond where weekend trips offer much relaxation without the long drive. The quiet lake, fully equipped cabins and pleasant staff make this a worthwhile excursion. Twin Lakes is also home to Cedar Crest Conference Center.
Attractions
- This small park is steeped in segregated history. It was developed in 1950 as Prince Edward State Park for Negroes. Due to racial unrest in America, this park was officially closed for a period of time. The other lake on this property, Goodwin Lake was reserved for whites only. In 1986 the state formally merged the property and renamed the facility Twin Lakes State Park. Much of this history is depicted through photographs and interpretive signs hanging on the walls of the lovely Cedar Crest Conference Center.
Recreation - There is a full service campground, group camping, fully equipped cabins (some with fireplaces and some without), the Mistletoe Lodge, swimming beach with built-in water toys, multi-use trails and the concession/store combination. There is also a boat launch for each lake. Cedar Crest Conference Center offers accommodations for family reunions, corporate meetings, wedding receptions or any special gathering. The large center can accommodate approximately 200 people with a full-service kitchen. You may do your own cooking or have your event catered. The Center's dining area looks out over the pristine lake and also offers a large deck for use during warmer months. This facility is unmatched in the local area; therefore, it "books" early. Lees Retreat Driving Tour and Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historic State Park are popular local attractions. For more information regarding Lee's Retreat call 1-800-6-RETREAT.
