Description - This 3,280-acre lake is located on Aquilla and Hackberry Creeks. It has two boat ramps and is operated bu the US Army Corps of Engineers. It is open all year and no fees are required.

- The lake has two boat ramps. Both areas have restrooms and abundant parking.A free public fishing pier is located at the tailrace below the dam. Bait is available at Burger Shack Cafe Bait & Tackle (254/582-1266) located between Hillsboro and Whitney at the corner of State Highway 22 and FM 1947.

Climate - Texas is a huge state with varying climates but generally the climate could be said to be primarily hot and humid in the summer months and mild to cool in the winter. Western Texas receives very little rainfall with the exception of the higher elevations. This is the driest area of the state having a relative humidity of 50 percent and an annual rainfall average of eight inches.
