Description - Possum Kingdom State Park, west of Mineral Wells in Palo Pinto County, is 1528.7 acres adjacent to Possum Kingdom Lake. Some of the rock facilities at the park were constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the early 1940s. The area was acquired by deed from the Brazos River Authority in 1940 and was opened to the public in 1950.

Activities available for visitors include, camping, picnicking, lake swimming, fishing , hiking, biking, nature study, boating, and water skiing.

Attractions - Attractions available within this scenic 1528.7 acre State Park include water based activities Moreover the park's diverse terrain allows for nature study and scenic hiking and biking. Additionally space is available foe camping and cabin use.

This park is located in the rugged canyon country of the Palo Pinto Mountains and Brazos River Valley, and is adjacent to Lake Possum Kingdom, 20,000 acres of the clearest, bluest water in
the southwest. Numerous white-tailed deer make their home in the park. The Possum Kingdom Longhorns are on sabbatical roaming the rolling plains and woodlands of San Angelo State park while their home range is being rested and restored for their return in a few years.

Some nearby points of interest are Fort Griffin and Fort Richardson State Historical Parks; Lake Mineral Wells, Lake Arrowhead, and Lake Brownwood State Parks.

This park has 6 cabins that accommodate 4 in each and 1 that accommodates 8; campsites with water and electricity (premium campsites are available); campsites with water; walk-in primitive campsites (50-100 yards, fire ring only); a trailer dump station; picnic tables; a fishing pier; restrooms with showers; a fish-cleaning facility; a concrete boat ramp with a courtesy dock; playgrounds; and 2 miles of hiking/nature trails.

Recreation - Recreational opportunities offered by the Possum Kingdom State Park includes camping, picnicking, lake swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, nature study, boating, and water skiing.

Climate - Located at an elevation of 925. feet, the State Park has an average July temperature high of 94 degrees and a southeast breeze. In January the average low temperature is 34 degrees. There is a low humidity year-round with April being wettest month. The first/last freeze is November 7/March 15. Current weather conditions can vary from day to day. Location - Possum Kingdom State Park is situated within the Panhandle Plains area of Texas. To reach the park take US Highway 180 to Caddo, then go 17 miles north on Park Road 33.
