General Information

Description - Lindenwald was the retirement home of Martin Van Buren, eighth President of the United States, and one of the principal architects of the Democratic Party. The mansion has been restored to its appearance during Van Buren's time.

Recreation - Martin Van Buren National Historic Site is open to the public May 20 to October 31 seven-days-a-week, November 1 to December 7 Saturday and Sunday only. The House and Visitor Center are closed from November 1st until May 20. The grounds, including a self guided wayside loop trail, are open year-round, though there are no facilities available from November 1 through May 20. Call the park at the number listed below for specific dates. In season visitation remains constant, with peaks on holiday weekends.

The visitor center across Old Post Road provides information on tours and fees. The visitor center is staffed from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on days that the park is open. Access to the historic house is by guided tour only.

Climate - The Taconic / Hudson Valley Travel Region has a varied climate with average January temperatures ranging from above 22 degrees down to 18 degrees Fahrenheit (above -6 degrees Celsius). Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius). Precipitation in the region ranges from 40 to more than 44 inches of rain and snowmelt.

Location - From Hudson, travel north on US 9 several miles to SR 25. Travel about 6 miles north to reach the Historic Site.
