Description - The Mohicanville Dam site is located on the lakefork of the Mohican River in northeast Ohio, 171 miles above the mouth of the Muskingum River at Marietta, Ohio. It is used exclusively to control flood waters below the site. The dam is a rolled earth fill with an impervious core, 46 feet high and 1220 feet long. There are two dikes approximately four miles southeast of the dam site. Spillway elevation is 963 feet mean sea level.

Attractions - Mohicanville Dam has offerings for a limited few. Bicyclists are permitted on the state and county highways, the roadway across the top of the dam, and the graveled access road in the downstream fishing area. Canoeists may use the public canoe ramp located in the downstream fishing access area. Anglers also use the area downstream. Hunters and anglers are welcome in the Funk Bottoms Wildlife Area, which is located approximately 2 miles northeast of the dam site consisting of 1,154 acres of land between towns of Funk and Blachleyville. Private canoe outfitters abound.

Recreation - Recreations at Mohicanville Dam are limited to fishing, hunting, road biking, canoeing, and wildlife viewing.

Climate - This state has four distinct seasons and a brilliant fall foliage display in it southern woods during mid October. Winter lasts from December through February with average temperatures near 25 degrees F. Low temperatures dip to single digits, but do not often drop below zero. Northern regions of the state receive average snowfall amounts of 55 inches, while the central and southern regions of the state receive lesser amounts with averages near 30 inches. This difference is caused by lake-affect moisture patterns.

Spring temperatures begin to warm the landscapes of Ohio by mid March and are in full swing by April. Temperatures range from 40 through 70 degrees F through the spring months. This season often brings the most rainfall, before the drying heat of summer. Summer can be extremely hot and humid in the interior of Ohio. Temperatures reach above 90 degrees F frequently through July and August. Cooler fall temperatures don't reach the region until mid to late September. This is a pleasant time to visit as the air is crisp with low humidity levels. Ohio's annual precipitation usually reaches slightly above 50 inches.

Location - Mohicanville Dam is located on Ashland County Road 175, 14 miles south of Ashland and 10 miles north of Loudonville.
