Description - Utah's Scenic Byway Program is comprised of 27 routes that showcase Utah's splendor; from slick rock canyons and pristine deserts to majestic mountain views and high country lakes.

- Four of these roads (the Nebo Loop National Scenic Byway, the Flaming Gorge/Uintas National Scenic Byway, and the Energy Loop, composed of the Eccles Canyon and Huntington Canyon Scenic Byways) have been honored with designations as premiere driving experiences. A series of Scenic Backways enhance the system, with highly scenic routes best suited for 4-wheel-drive, high-clearance vehicles.
Recreation - Byways provide access to numerous cultural, historical, natural, recreational and scenic sites. Some of the most popular activities along the byways include hiking, camping, picnicking, biking, fishing, photographing scenery, viewing historic sites and of course scenic driving. Climate - The climate of Utah varies with the terrain. Visitors to the mountains will experience cool summer nights and passing storms that can alter a sunny day very quickly. Be prepared with layers when recreating in the mountains. The deserts and canyons of Utah can be dangerous places. Summer temperatures often reach above 100 degrees F, so be sure to carry water on all adventures. Flash floods in the canyons are also a threat. It is difficult to predict incoming weather when deep within a canyon so check reports before venturing into any narrow canyon areas. Location -
