Description - Included here are short descriptions of many of the large reservoirs in Utah. Many of these reservoirs are part of State Parks and more information can be found under the Utah State Parks listing.
Attractions
- Utah's reservoirs can offer a great recreation alternative in a very arid state. Lake Powell and Flaming Gorge are the largest and most popular reservoirs in the state. Lake Powell offers the spectacular scenery of Glen Canyon. Many of the smaller reservoirs are found in scenic mountain locations.
Recreation - Most of the reservoirs listed here include facilities for boating, camping and picnicking. Other opportunities include fishing, swimming, sailboarding and enjoying the scenery. Climate - The climate of Utah varies with the terrain. Visitors to the mountains will experience cool summer nights and passing storms that can alter a sunny day very quickly. Be prepared with layers when recreating in the mountains. The deserts and canyons of Utah can be dangerous places. Summer temperatures often reach above 100 degrees F, so be sure to carry water on all adventures. Flash floods in the canyons are also a threat. It is difficult to predict incoming weather when deep within a canyon so check reports before venturing into any narrow canyon areas. Location -
Utah's reservoirs are scattered throughout the state. Maps are available on the pages describing each lake or reservoir.
