Description - This National Historic Trail follows the path of Mormon Pioneers as they traveled westward to escape religious persecution in the late 1840s. The trail extends 1,624 miles from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah.

- The Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail leads westward from Nauvoo, Illinois, through five states, to Salt Lake City, Utah. The route follows the Oregon Trail closely for much of its course, passing 83 historic sites and six protected segments. An auto tour route has been marked approximating the trail.
Recreation - This auto tour leads along a 1,624-mile route with a variety of historic sites open to the public. Information on trail routes and history is available from the National Park Service Long Distance Trails Office. Climate - Information on accessibility and travel conditions along the cross-country segments of this trail is best obtained from local offices of the Bureau of Land Management or the National Forest Service.
