Description - Known for its excellent service, Deer Valley sits in Utah's picturesque Rocky Mountain Wasatch Range adjacent to Park City. Since opening in 1981, Deer Valley has been committed to a level of service and convenience rarely found at a ski resort. Exceptional customer service, consistent quality and attention to every detail are all part of the Deer Valley creed.To avoid overcrowded trails, Deer Valley limits the number of skiers on the mountain daily. A commitment to the finest in food quality has set high standards for dining in the ski industry. Construction will begin on the Empire Lodge, to be located at the bottom of Empire Express and Ruby chairlifts in Empire Canyon. Site of the 2002 Olympic slalom, mogul and aerial events, Deer Valley will continue improvements to the Olympic venues.
Attractions
- Deer Valley is made of four areas: Bald Eagle Mountain, Bald Mountain, Flagstaff Mountain, and Empire Canyon. They offer a great variety of skiing for experts and novices alike, along with panoramic views of the Wasatch and Uinta Mountains. These mountains are served by 19 lifts, including one four passenger high-speed gondola, five high-speed detachable quads, three fixed-grip quad chairlifts, eight triple chairs and two double chairs which access 87 ski runs and six bowls. Bald Mountain offers ideal terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers. First-time skiers will appreciate the separate, protected beginners' area known as Wide West. Bald Eagle Mountain will serve as the venue for Deer Valley's 2002 Olympic Games events. Bald Mountain offers intermediate and challenging skiing along with spectacular views. Flagstaff Mountain offers intermediate and beginner ski trails, in addition to extensive gladed areas and access to Ontario Bowl. Empire Canyon offers skiing for all abilities with a family ski area, intermediate terrain and some of the most advanced skiing at Deer Valley, including eight chutes and three bowls.
Recreation - During the winter months, Deer Valley offers downhill skiing. Snowboards are not permitted on the mountain. Summer brings opportunities for lift accessed mountain biking and hiking as well as horseback riding. Climate - Several weather effects combine to bring Utah its famous powder snow. Prevailing winter winds winds push clouds full of moisture east from the Pacific Ocean, across California and Nevada and to Utah. When the clouds meet Utah's Rocky Mountains, the remaining moisture rises, cools and condenses, and precipitation hits the Utah ski resorts with deep powder snow that is particularly light and dry. Another weather element that feeds Utah's "snow making machine" is the Great Salt Lake Effect. The lake releases water into the air that then rises into clouds of snow, producing squalls on the lake's eastern flanks. These squalls contain some of the lightest, fluffiest snow in the country which falls in feet - not inches- in the Wasatch Mountains. Location -
Deer Valley is located east of Salt Lake City, adjacent to Park City, just 36 miles east of Salt Lake City International Airport.
Directions from Salt Lake City Airport: From the airport take I-80 east across Salt Lake City. After reaching the foothills and the eastern edge of the city, continue about 15 20 minutes to Exit #145 Kimball Junction / Park City. From Exit 145, go south on Highway 224 to Park City and Deer Valley.
