General Information

Description - Fremont Indian State Park and Museum is a heritage site within the Utah State Park system. The park preserves the site of an abandoned Fremont pit-house village along the Interstate 70 corridor. The property includes a visitor center, museum and several trails that help visitors understand Fremont culture. Several hundred rock art panels throughout the area are a highlight of any visit.

Attractions - Although few Fremont-built structures remain at this site, it is teeming with rock art panels for visitors to view, enjoy and interpret. The developed facilities include a 31-site campground, for RVs and tents, with modern facilities and drinking water. (Reservations are recommended from May 1 through September 15.) A picnic area is also available to visitors. A visitor center and museum at the park house interpretive exhibits on Fremont culture, flora and fauna and geology of the area. Audio/visual presentations at the visitor center provide a look into the history of the site. Approximately 12 trails lead through the surrounding terrain, a few of which have accompanying brochures. Staff-led hikes are scheduled throughout the summer months. Visitors should check at the museum for times and descriptions.

Recreation - This site provides a myriad of recreation opportunities including hiking, biking, camping and picnicking. The park lies along Clear Creek, which is accessible to anglers with the proper licenses. Before a hike through the canyon visitors can examine Fremont artifacts and read about the daily life of these people in the exhibits of the visitor center and museum.

Climate - Fremont Indian State Park lies in central Utah at an elevation of 5,900 feet. The climate is arid with less than 15 inches of precipitation per year. Summer days are usually hot with temperatures reaching 90 degrees F and nights cooling to 60 degrees F. Winter can be very cold and snowfall does occur. Expect daytime highs to reach 50 degrees F and nighttime temperatures to drop below freezing.

Location - This site lies 21 miles southwest of Richfield on Interstate 70 in central Utah.
