General Information

Description - Snow Canyon State Park preserves and protects the unique geological formations of red Navajo sandstone, capped by an overlay of black lava rock. The park consists of 5,738 acres at an elevation of 3,200 feet in southwestern Utah. A mild climate and numerous facilities make this a year-round destination for Utah visitors and residents.

Attractions - The primary attraction at this park is the strikingly colorful canyon. Two recent volcanic cones are found near the head of the canyon. Facilities at the park include a 35-unit campground, modern rest rooms, hot showers, electric hookups, sewage disposal station, a covered group-use pavilion group campsites, volleyball nets and an overflow campground.

Recreation - The facilities at Snow Canyon State Park provide opportunities for camping, picnicking, hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing and photography.

Climate - Southwestern Utah, like other regions of the state, is arid, receiving approximately 12 inches of rain per year. The fall and spring are the most pleasant times to visit Snow Canyon State Park, and also the most crowded, with warm days and cool nights. Summer brings very hot days and visitors are encouraged to curb activities during the afternoons. In winter expect warm days and very cold nights.

Location - This strikingly colorful canyon is 11 miles northwest of St. George, Utah, and accessible from Snow Canyon Parkway.
