- John H. Kerr Power House offers tours where the visitor may see generators, a control room, electrical and mechanical floors. The dam itself is a spectacular man-made feature. Creation of this dam opened up endless recreation opportunities. The lake is well known for power boating, jet skiing, fishing and swimming. Note: you will want to carry bug repellent during the warmer months.
Recreation - This area offers countless boat launches and camping opportunities. The Elm Hill State Game Management Area is close by offering a rifle range. There are two state parks which offer camping, hiking and the other usual park amenities.
Climate - Virginia generally has mild winters and warm humid summers. The Piedmont Plateau area of the state has winter temperatures averaging above 36 degrees Fahrenheit (2 degrees Celsius). The state's summer temperatures have little variation. Piedmont Plateau generally experiences temperatures above 78 degrees Fahrenheit (26 Celsius). High humidity along with warm temperatures can be uncomfortable.
