- Richmond is the capital city of Virginia politics and industry. It harbors many of the giants of the tobacco industry along side the politicians of this southern state. The population of the city is close to 210,000.Like many other American cities Richmond community leaders are attempting to revitalize the defunct industrial areas of the city. Huge tobacco warehouses on the James River have been renovated and are attracting people into the downtown area. Several other attractions bring visitors and locals into this area of the city. A few of these attractions include: Valentine Museum, Confederate White House, Virginia Capitol and the Edgar Allen Poe Museum.
Recreation - Recreation in the city includes walking, biking, in-line skating, touring historic sites and viewing museum exhibits. The closest green area to Richmond is Pocahontas State Park. Climate - The climate of this city is hot and humid during the summer months. Highs often reach 95 degrees F with nighttime lows near 70. It has a mild climate throughout the year with humidity less obvious during the spring, fall and winter months. Winter brings some snow and temperatures in the 50s. Debilitating ice storms do occur in the region throughout the winter months due to warmer temperatures and high humidity. Location -
