- Virginia offers beautiful mountain scenic drives and historic exploration from the visitor's car seat. There are numerous overlooks that provide parking and often times picnicking. The Blue Ridge Parkway travels from the Shenandoah Valley down into the Appalachians of North Carolina weaving along at 45 mph. Many mountain bikers are known to travel along this route that provides visitor centers, hiking and overnight accommodations. The George Washington Memorial Parkway loops around Washington, D.C. offering sights of our nations most well known monuments. The Mount Rogers Scenic Byway carries the traveler to the highest elevations in the Commonwealth and the Colonial Parkway offers a relaxing adventure between some of the nation's finest historical preservations.

Climate - Virginia, as a whole, experiences high humidity throughout the year. Summers promise high heat and humidity, which can make rigorous activities uncomfortable and difficult. Spring and fall are the best times to visit the area to avoid the heat. The mountains to the coast receive high rainfall during these seasons, so rain gear is recommended. Winter precipitation levels vary from year to year. The humidity makes temperatures feel colder during the winter as it makes the summer temperatures feel hotter.
