Alburg Dunes State Park
Description - Alburg Dunes is located in the Champlain Islands, and shares the attractions of Grand Isle, Knight Point and North Hero State Parks.

Attractions - Alburg Dunes is a new state park and presently offers limited attractions. Since this park is located in the Champlain Islands, it shares the attractions of Grand Isle, Knight Point and North Hero State Parks.

Recreation - Alburg Dunes offers limited facilities. Many people enjoy traveling to one or more of the nearby state parks.

Grand Isle State Park offers 120 tent / RV sites, 36 lean-to sites and one cabin site. Restrooms have running water and hot showers for a fee. There is a dump station but no hookups. Lake access provides an area for swimming and shore fishing. A boat launch and boat rental are available. Grand Isle also has an activity center which houses interpretive programs, games and entertainment. This park also has a sand-court volleyball, horseshoes, a play area, fitness trail and a nature walk.

Knight Point State Park is a day use park offering picnicking, a picnic shelter, swimming, boat rental, several easy wide paths with lovely scenic views, and wildlife and plant life viewing.

North Hero State Park is also located in the Champlain's Islands offering a forest type in these flood plain areas uncommon to Vermont. This forest type is found only around Lake Champlain. This park is abound with wildlife including white-tailed deer, migratory waterfowl, ruffed grouse and an array of other small woodland creatures. North Hero has a campground with 99 wooded tent / RV sites. There are also 18 lean-tos that are arranged in three camp loops, each with flush toilets and hot showers for a fee. There is a dump station but no hookups. Group camping is accommodated. Lakeside picnicking is near a ungraded swimming beach, the boat rentals and boat launch area.

Climate - Winter daytime temperatures in the lower half of the Lakes / Kingdom region averages 14 to 16 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 to -9 Celsius). The upper half of this region experiences winter temperatures ranging below 14 degrees Fahrenheit (below -10 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures are cooler along the western area of Lake Champlain averaging 66 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (19 to 21 Celsius). The central area of this region expects temperatures from 66 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit (19 to 20 Celsius) with the eastern area of this region experiencing the coolest summer time temperatures of less than 66 degrees Fahrenheit (below 19 Celsius). The yearly precipitation for Lakes and Kingdom Travel Region vary from less than 36 inches (91 centimeters) along the western line to more than 44 inches (112 centimeters) along the eastern border of New Hampshire and Canada.

Location - Alburg Dunes is located in the Lakes Champlain area of northwestern Vermont.

Vermont State Parks and Forests - Vermont has over 50 state parks and over 2,200 campsites and shelters available for seasonal use. Most state parks permit cross-country skiing and several permit snowmobiling on designated routes. Vermont also offers over 35 state forests open for recreation use along with four rail trails and nearly a dozen historic sites.
