General Information

Description - Chief Timothy State Park covers 282 acres with 11,500 feet of freshwater shoreline. The park offers 24 picnic sites, 33 utility campsites and 33 standard campsites, a trailer dump, eight sun shelters, a bathhouse, an unguarded swimming beach, an interpretive center, four boat ramps and docks, and a food concession. Across Highway 12 from the park is the administrative area with a shop and storage facilities.

Recreation - Activities at the park include boating, camping, fishing, hiking, interpretation, picnicking, sightseeing, swimming, and water skiing.

Climate - Washington's climate varies with each region. The Cascades split the state and alter weather patterns. Chief Timothy State Park, located east of the mountains, receives significantly less rainfall than regions west of the mountains with an average annual precipitation of twelve inches.

Average summer temperatures are 94 degrees maximum and 50 degrees minimum. Because central Washington is landlocked and subject to winter winds, winter temperatures are much colder than those in western Washington.

Location - Chief Timothy State Park, in southeast Washington, is located on an island in the Snake River, which is eight miles west of Clarkston on Highway 12.

Report: My partner and I have visited Chief Timothy Park for the last 5 years for our annual vacation. We intently set it for the week after Memorial Day weekend, and we have the entire tent camping area to ourselves in the upper level of the park. The staff and grounds crew are invaluable, and are available to any campers 24/7. The fishing is great from the boat docks, and since we practice catch and release, we take pictures of the many Perch, Catfish, Blue Gill, Carp (mango size), and of course Bass. I would recommend this park to anyone, and the view from your tent is absolutely spectacular! Fishing in the morning and evening (as it gets quite hot in the midday)is our chosen method, and we usually end up spending 2 or 3 days there longer than we intended because we hate to leave there, and when we finally do, we wish we were there again!

Report: Chief Tomothy is one of the best places to camp I have ever seen. My dad and I join a group of about 30 friends and family for about ten days on the river. And often during the year I wish I was there right then. We spend the ten days boating, boarding, riding, a great time that only Chief Timothy's can provide. I hope that Chief Timothy's will be their for my family and I to enjoy.
