General Information

Description - Gardner Cave is the feature attraction of Crawford State Park and is the second largest limestone cavern in Washington. Crawford State Park covers 48.57 acres; 7.5 of which are cleared or developed and the remainder is forest. There are 12 picnic sites, an interpretive trail picnic shelter, restroom facilities and a shop.

Recreation - The main activity at the park is guided cave tours.

Climate - Washington's climate varies with each region. The Cascades split the state and alter weather patterns. Crawford State Park, located east of the mountains, receives significantly less rainfall than regions west of the mountains with an average annual precipitation of twelve inches.

Average summer temperatures are 94 degrees maximum and 50 degrees minimum. Because central Washington is landlocked and subject to winter winds, winter temperatures are much colder than those in western Washington.

Location - Crawford State Park, in northeast Washington, is located in Pend Oreille County. Access to the park is through Metaline on Highway 31, then by a surfaced road to Boundary Dam and a paved Forest Service road from Boundary Dam to Crawford.
