Description - The Mountain Bay Trail is Wisconsin's longest bike trail stretching 80.5 miles between Wausau and Green Bay Areas. The trail is a cooperative project between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the counties of Wausau / Marathon, Shawano, and Brown. A wide variety of landscapes are explored.

- The crushed rock surface of Mountain-Bay State Trail journeys through Northeast Wisconsin crossing more than 20 bridges that dot an agricultural, prairie, and rolling wooded landscape. The trail extends between Wausau and Green Bay areas with an on-road segment through Shawano, a major resort city. Overnight facilities are available at Dells of the Eau Claire County Park and Rib Mountain State Park where a billion-year-old hill, one of the oldest geologic formations on earth, is found. A 60-foot observation tower rises 700 feet above the surrounding plain offering spectacular views. Overnight facilities at the state park comprise a lower and upper campground with 40 reservable sites. In winter, snowmobiles are permitted on the trail from Weston to Pulaski. Trail passes are required for bikers 16 years of age and older.
Recreation - Trail users include hikers, bicyclists, and snowmobilers. Climate - Northeast Wisconsin has four distinct seasons with warm summers and long winters. Great Lakes Michigan and Superior tend to make summers cooler and winters milder close to shore. January's average temperature is in the teens F (-teens C). Average July temperature is 68-70 degrees F (20 degrees C). During summer, temperatures can climb to above 90 degrees F (32 degrees C) for a several day stretch. The area's average yearly precipitation ranges from 30-32". Annual snowfalls in the Northeast Region have a wide range; the southern areas may receive 50" while the northern areas may receive in excess of 180". Nighttime summer temperatures can dip below freezing. Dressing in layers is a good way to remain comfortable in Wisconsin. Location -
