Description - Located in south central Wyoming, Rawlins Field Office, offers access to six campgrounds, five mountain bike trails, Adobe Town Wilderness Study Area, North Platte and Encampment Rivers. The Bureau of Land Management emphasizes natural resource-dependent recreation opportunities that typify the western landscape.

Recreation - Rawlins Field Office offers backpacking access to the Encampment trail stretching into Colorado, camping, mountain biking, four-wheel driving, floating, fishing and wildlife viewing.

Climate - As throughout the Rocky Mountains, the climate varies drastically depending on elevation. Summers generally offer warm clear days with cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are often a possibility in the summer. In the winter, sunshine, with plenty of snow in the higher elevations, are ideal for winter activities. Harsh weather - including wind, cold, and snow - is possible throughout the winter and even throughout the year, in the highest elevations.

Carbon county ranges from elevations in the upper 6,000s to 10,037 feet for Ferris Peak, 11,156 for Elk Mountain, and 12,013 for Medicine Bow Peak.

The climate around Rawlins is semi-arid with low relative humidity. They receive
an average of 10.9" of precipitation a year, with 41.5" snowfall per year. The
annual temperature averages 42 degrees F. In summer , the average is
67.6 F and in winter 35.8 F. The average wind speed is 11.9 mph, though we often have beautiful calm evenings. Visitors should come prepared for sudden weather changes.

often our wettest snow storms come in May or September - so
