General Information

Description - The lake is 20 miles long when full and has a shoreline of about 56 miles. Recreation management at Fontenelle Reservoir is performed by the Bureau of Land Management under agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation. The reservoir is situated north of Kemmerer, Wyoming, at an elevation of 6,500 feet. Recreation use is low and seasonal. Fish species include rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout

Attractions - Fontenelle Reservoir sits at an elevation of 6,500-foot and has a 8,060-acre surface area. Recreation is low and seasonal. Preferred activities include fishing, camping, and hunting. Available species include rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. All-weahter access if from U.S. 189 and State Rd. 372. Fontanelle Reservoir Southeast and Southwest, Anderson Canyon, and Names Hill U.S. Geological Survey maps cover the area. Barrier-free facilities exist at Fontenelle Creek Campground. Fees charged. Three other campgrounds below the dam and along the Green River where fees are not charged; drinking water and flush toilets not available. Stream fishing opportunities exist on the Green River above and below the reservoir.

Recreation - Visitors can enjoy fishing, boating, camping, hiking, hunting, picnicking, recreational vehicles, water sports, wildlife viewing and winter sports. Fontenelle Creek campground has developed campsites with restrooms and running water. Camping fees are charged at Fontenelle Creek Campground. There is no charge for boat launching, primitive camping, picnicking or other activities. Three other primitive campsites are located below the dam. Stream fishing opportunities exist on the Green River above and below the reservoir.

Climate - The climate in Wyoming changes with the topography. Generally the western mountains and basins receive large amounts of precipitation and create a rain shadow for eastern Wyoming. Most of the precipitation occurs during the winter months and falls in the form of snow. Temperatures are cooler in this region than the eastern part of the state, because of the generally higher elevation.

Location - Fontenelle Reservoir is situated 30 miles north of Kemmerer in southwest Wyoming. It is located on the Green River off Highway 189.
