Description
- There are four National Wildlife Refuges located throughout Wyoming. The National Elk Refuge is the best known of these and provides critical elk winter range for a herd of about 8,500 elk. The Hutton Lake National Wildlife Refuge covers an area around five mountain lakes. Sedskadee includes a 36 mile stretch of the Green River. Pathfinder is centered around the remote Pathfinder Reservoir.
Recreation - Recreation opportunities vary from site to site. Some of the wildlife oriented recreation includes hunting, fishing, wildlife observation, self guided auto tours, viewing interpretive sites, floating the Green River, and general wildlife viewing. Climate - As throughout the Rocky Mountains, the climate varies drastically depending on elevation. Summers generally offer warm clear days with cool nights. Afternoon thunderstorms are often a possibility in the summer. In the winter, frequent sunshine, but heavy snow in the higher elevations, are ideal for winter activities. The lakes and reservoirs in Wyoming are frozen through most of the winter. Harsh weather - including strong winds, cold, and snow - is possible throughout the winter and even throughout the year, especially in the highest elevations. Location -
