Description - This irrigation reservoir is the most popular recreation area serving south-central Montana. Attractions include good walleye and rainbow trout fishing. Boating opportunities are abundant and 75 camping spots are available on this large 289 acre site at 3,300 feet in elevation. The site offers both flush and vault toilets, grills/firerings, picnic tables, trash cans, drinking water, and coin operated showers. A golf course and three museums are located nearby in Red Lodge. Campers may stay 7 days during a 30 day period.
- Cooney State Park is equipped with a boat launch, camping shelter, campsites, trails, public restroom, showers and water. This park has handicapped accessible sites and pets are allowed.
Cooney Reservoir State Park is located 22 miles southwest of Laurel on US Highway 212, then 5 miles west of Boyd on county road.
