Description - Snow Summit's parent company has recently purchased Big Bear Mountain. The two resorts, located just one mile apart, will be jointly marketed under the entity referred to as "Big Bear Mountain Resorts." As a result, Big Bear Mountain Resort will revert to its former name of Bear Mountain Resort. Bear Mountain will be oriented more toward the youthful freestyle skiers and snowboarders whereas Snow Summit will cater more to families with children and mainstream skiers and snowboarders. Big Bear Mountain Resorts is Southern California's only four-season mountain resort. Summer attractions include Snow Summit Scenic Sky Chair and Bear Mountain Resort Golf Course where fun on the fairways is enjoyed at an elevation of 7,000 feet. - Bear Mountain's backcountry includes 500 acres of untouched, pure and natural off-piste sliding adventure. The Magic Minor's Camp for ages 4-12 creates a fun atmosphere that helps kids improve their on-snow skills. Bear Mountain limits ticket sales to keep the crowds down. Reservations are recommended and can be made from 8am to 5pm daily. Lift tickets can also be purchased on-line at the resort's web site.
Recreation - Big Bear Mountain Resorts offer year-round recreation activities. The winter season brings opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. In the summer season, a chairlift operates and guests find hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Climate - Climate in this region varies greatly with elevation. Temperatures can be 70 degrees in Los Angeles while only 40 degrees at Big Bear Lake. It can snow almost any month of the year in the highest elevations. Heavy snow is possible in the high elevations during the winter months. Most of the precipitation comes between November and April so summers tend to be dry. Summer temperatures are normally warm to hot at the low elevations and more moderate at the higher elevations. Nighttime temperatures can be cool in the mountains, even during the summer months.
