Chester State Park
Description - This quiet 523-acre park provides a tranquil setting which is enjoyed by campers, day visitors and nature lovers. The park's 160-acre lake offers excellent fishing opportunities. Originally farmland, the park's hilly terrain is a pine forest in transition to mixed hardwoods. The park was originally developed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's.

There are 25 campsites rented on a first-come, first-served basis, except for 2 sites which may be reserved exclusively for the handicapped. Other day-use facilities include: fishing in the park's 160-acre lake for bass, bream, crappie and catfish. Boats can be rented for a reasonable fee but private boats are not allowed in the park lake. There are also trails, an equestrian show ring, picnic shelters, playground equipment, and an archery range. Meeting facilities include a 75 capacity building with handicap access.

Recreation - Activities at Chester State Park include camping, fishing, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, boating (rented boats only, no private boats permitted) and archery.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Chester State Park is located in north-central South Carolina, 3 miles southwest of the town of Chester, on SC Highway 72.

Report: My trip was excellent. For all you fisherman out there, try fishing aroung the brush next to the dam. We weren't able to camp out at the boat dock. You can also rent boats or bring your own. You can't have a outboard motor on your boat. You can rent Johnnoats at the park. You have to go to the office and do so.
