Description - Eagle Lake Field Office is located in the Shasta area encompassing the counties of Lassen, Plumas and Sierra. Rolling and rugged terrain contains fir, pine, and oak interspersed with open meadows filled with scented sagebrush and vivid splashes of wildflowers. Natural and manmade lakes such as Dodge Reservoir and Eagle Lake entice anglers with bounties of rainbow trout, speckled dace, and tui chub. These and other rich water sources attract varied resident and migrant wildlife such as tule elk, bald eagles, and sage grouse.

Attractions - Activities within the Eagle Lake BLM resource area are endless. Numerous rugged and scenic sites offer opportunities to camp, blaze trails, and view abundant wildlife. Located along the Pacific's Flyway, there is a bounty of neotropicals and raptors that course the region each spring and fall. In winter, bald eagles are oftentimes seen riding the thermals above glorious lakes such as Eagle Lake, where campsites mark the shoreline and boat launch offer access to trophy fishing. Several wilderness study areas such as the Tunnison Mountain and Skedaddle regions remain allusive the casual traveler. Eagle Lake Field Office is also the place for information pertaining to the wild horse and burro adoption program. A full palette of recreation is available on the Bizz Johnson Trail where outdoor enthusiasts savor archeology, backpacking, bird identification, sightseeing, horseback riding, and more. Additionally, anglers and campers have good opportunities for remote relaxation amid quiet environments.

Recreation - Recreational opportunities within the Eagle Lake Field Office include bird watching, camping, horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife viewing, boating, fishing, backpacking, and much more.

Climate - Climate in the Shasta-Cascade Region varies greatly with elevation. Higher elevations tend to have much cooler temperatures and higher precipitation. Summer weather is usually hot and dry with lower elevation temperatures ranging from 85 - 100+ degrees F and lows from 60 - 70 degrees F. Autumn days are usually mild and warm, with cool nights. Winter is when most of the precipitation falls, averaging over 55 inches per year, much of it in the form of snow in the high elevations. Highs range from 40 - 60 degrees F and lows from 30 - 40 degrees F in the lower elevations. Spring weather is variable with many pleasant days.
