The Lake is wonderful for fishing as well as swimming and other water sports activities. Recently, it has become the winter home of our national symbol, the Bald Eagle.

Recreation - The Resort Lodge, high on the bluff has 94 rooms and 6 suites, many overlooking the lake. Enjoy dining room, coffee shop, gift shop, sauna, swimming pool and art gallery. The newly renovated cottages and chalets offer 16 lake view cottages with a capacity of 1-8 people, and 18 chalets for 1-6. All are set up for light housekeeping. The chalets are equipped with fireplaces, television sets and telephones.

There are campgrounds with 364 improved campsites. Primitive camping is also available. The campgrounds include a camp store, a boat dock, a tennis courts, and laundry are near by.

Our facilities can be tailored to your needs, whether it's a small departmental meeting, a convention of 600 people, or a banquet with 1,200 guests.

Swimming can be had at the beach near the campground or in the pool at the lodge. As for boating enjoy the dock, launch and rental facilities plus a fully equipped tackle shop.

Fishing can be enjoyed from a boat or the shore of T.V.A.'s 66,470 acre Lake Guntersville. Fishing tackle and supplies are available. There is an 18 hole course, with a pro-shop and equipment rental. For tennis there are 2 lighted courts across from the lodge and in the campground area.

This Park is excellent for picnics with pavilions for group outings, shaded picnic areas for the family, and a playground for the kids.

On site there is a Nature Center with a trained Park Naturalist who can better inform you about our special Eagle Awareness Programs during the month of January and guide you to the 31 miles of marked trails to hike on.

Climate - The climate of Alabama's lowlands can be described as subtropical with nearly 60 inches of rain each year. The highest amount of rain reaches the region as afternoon thunderstorms in July, August and September. Summers are extremely hot and humid with temperatures frequently reaching above 100 degrees F. Summer nights cool slightly and provide a good time to travel through the region.

Winter temperatures are mild, rarely dipping below 40 degrees with the humidity level at its lowest in November and December. Spring and fall are very pleasant times to visit the region. Spring brings mild temperatures and blooming trees and flowers. During the fall temperatures range from 65 to 85 degrees F with low humidity levels. Northern Alabama is generally cooler than the south due to its higher elevations.

Location - Guntersville Lake State Park is located just six miles northeast of Guntersville, off Highway 227, overlooking the majestic 66,470-acre Guntersville Reservoir.
