Report: We went to Letts Lake for our first time June 2005. Had only a few reviews to go by and I will admit that I was a bit reluctant and more so during our trip up there. My love affair with the place came the first morning, upon arising, the place was pure majic. Make sure you bring up everything you will need for the time you will be there because the trip down and back is excruciating in terms of the road and the heat. If I hadn't had a hard time with the heat I would have done more hiking but the lake is a perfect place to just simply relax. And I fell in love with the camp hosts as well !!! We will definately return.

Report: Temperature was warm, mild at night. Caught a few small fish, nothing big. Lake is full of water. Not too dusty yet. A lot of bugs this time of year, including lots of mosquitoes.

Report: It's still pretty cold at night, mild during the day. There's still some snow on the mountain tops. There were more people than I expected. Fishing was horrible, no one was catching anything. The lake hasn't been restocked yet. As for the camp hosts, they are very nice people who's job is to keep the lake a nice quiet place to camp. If they're watching you it's probably because you're doing something you shouldn't. If you're looking for a place to party go to your local mega-campground where you'll be in good company. Because you WILL get kicked out of Letts Lake (happened to a group this weekend).

Report: Wow. At first,I must admit, that I was glad to hear the negative responses. Who wants Letts Lake to be flooded with tons of people? But then I couldn't believe the rude remarks. We have been going to Letts Lake every year twice a year for the past 8 years. It is a beautiful, peaceful place to take your family on a camping trip. It is one of the last small lakes around that are stocked with fish and are funded enough to be maintained. I am very thankful that it is there to be enjoyed. As for the camp hosts, they have been there for quite a while and my kids look forward to seeing their familiar faces every year. I think they do a fantastic job and I appreciate their presence. If you are looking for a beautiful place to get away from it all, go to Letts Lake. Enjoy the ducks, beavers, eagles, fishing, hiking, non-motor boating, and swimming. And while your at it, give the camp hosts a friendly hello. But if you want to party? Go to the resevoir down the road.

Report: We (61 and 49 year-olds) motored to Letts Lake last Sunday from I-5. Excellent signage within the NF. Dozens of OHVers were streaming down the mountain at us from the Fouts Springs site. Driving in winter here is not for the faint-of-heart. Encountered a jack-knifed RV trailer down a ravine. Mid 30's at noon, ice on the road, and 1" snow on ground. Yikes! ... The lake is gorgeous. Saw one hardy camper outside by his fire! We plan to tent camp here next summer, maybe at a "dispersed" site.

Grindstone Ranger District - The Grindstone Ranger District is the conglomeration of the former Stonyford Ranger District and Corning Ranger District. This District encompasses most of the eastern half of the Mendocino National Forest. The Grindstone Ranger District offers many opportunities for hiking, biking, fishing, camping and horseback riding.
