Paris Mountain State Park
Description - Visitors desiring a quiet place to relax in a mountain setting can find this opportunity at Paris Mountain State Park, located only a short drive from downtown Greenville. Formerly a watershed for the city, Paris Mountain is one of the oldest protected areas in the state. This 1275-acre park is well known for its stands of large trees, lake swimming, hiking and numerous picnic areas. Today many of the park's buildings display the CCC's rustic style of architecture and stonework.

The campground offers 50 sites which are RV accessible for RV's up to 40 feet. Camp Buckhorn group camp is an ideal rental facility for groups of up to 42 persons. Buckhorn Lodge may be rented for meetings and special occasions. Seven picnic shelters are available. The park offers several hiking trails and a 1.5 mile bike trail. Enjoy fishing in the park's 13-acre Lake Placid for bass, crappie and bream. Seasonal lake swimming and rental pedal boats are offered upon availability of lifeguards.

Recreation - This park offers opportunities for camping, hiking, fishing, biking, picnicking, and swimming.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Paris Mountain State Park is located in the northwest corner of South Carolina, 6 miles north of Greenville on SC Highway 253.

Report: While the Sulphur Springs Trail is fairly easy in some spots (especially up to the lake near the waterfall), it is strenuous in certain areas and I would not recommend it for young children, the elderly or anyone who is in poor physical condition. I would recommend for those people the trail around the lake as you first enter the park for an easy stroll with nice scenery.

Report: After arriving at Paris Mountain, we had a nice picnic lunch right by the lake. We hiked around the lake, then rode around the park in the car to check out the rest... We decided to hike part of a trail to the waterfall. The hike was labeled 'strenuous' but the part we hiked was easy for us (including children ages 6 and 10). The waterfall was nice, and afforded us a chance to take off our shoes and dip our feet in the beautiful small mountain lake. We would like to hike the entire trail next trip. The playgound equipment has been removed, but our children had fun just the same. Pack a lunch and head out on a beautiful day - you won't be disappointed! Note: The campground looked very well maintained and was not crowded on the day we hiked (April 1). There is lake swimming and pedal boats available in the summer.
