General Information

Description - Sergeant Jasper Park received its name from the American Revolutionary War hero, Sergeant William Jasper, defender of Fort Moultrie. The park is located in Jasper County, which has a short southern coast along the Atlantic Ocean that includes a portion of the Sea Islands. The county park encompasses 442 acres of pine wetland providing favorable habitat for a variety of waterfowl, plant life, and a profusion of migratory birds. The area is rich in American history; serving as battle sites for the Cusabo Indians, colonial-era turbulence, and a Civil War battle where Union troops trampled the Confederates after their seizure of Savanna, Georgia.

Attractions - Sergeant Jasper Park offers day use amenities including access to several small fishing lakes, a spacious meeting building and a children's playground. The meeting building may be rented for business meetings, family reunions, or club gatherings. Visitors will find the county facility convenient to Interstate 95 near Hardeeville.

Recreation - Visitors will find a canopied picnic grove, several small fishing lakes, and a community building. The hardwood and pine wetland ecosystem is favorable for bird watching and nature study. Call 843-784-5130 for details pertaining to the community building rental requirements.

Climate - South Carolina generally has a temperate climate, with cool winters and warm, humid summers. Snow and freezing temperatures are possible in the winter at the higher elevations. Thunderstorms are possible throughout the year but most common in the spring and summer. Tropical storms occasionally strike the coast during the hurricane season.

Location - Sergeant Jasper State Park is located in the southern South Carolina, adjacent to I-95 (exit 8) near secondary road 88 north of Hardeeville.
