General Information

Description - This park spans 1,445 acres along the shores of Lake Martin, which is a 41,000-acre clear water reservoir. The park features a marina, camp store, fishing pier, hiking trails, playground and picnic areas with tables, grills, and shelters. Park facilities include the largest state operated campground in the United States with 642 sites, many of which are waterfront so campers can fish, swim and boat right out their back door.

Recreation - Recreational activities include fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, camping and picnicking.

Climate - The climate of Alabama's lowlands can be described as subtropical with nearly 60 inches of rain each year. The highest amount of rain reaches the region as afternoon thunderstorms in July, August and September. Summers are extremely hot and humid with temperatures frequently reaching above 100 degrees F. Summer nights cool slightly and provide a good time to travel through the region.

Winter temperatures are mild, rarely dipping below 40 degrees with the humidity level at its lowest in November and December. Spring and fall are very pleasant times to visit the region. Spring brings mild temperatures and blooming trees and flowers. During the fall temperatures range from 65 to 85 degrees F with low humidity levels. Northern Alabama is generally cooler than the south due to its higher elevations.

Location - Located 7 miles southeast of Alexander City, Wind Creek State Park spreads over 1,445 acres beside Lake Martin.

Report: Our family loves to visit this park. We live only twenty minutes away, but find this park the most relaxing park in the state. Our children have met many new friends. We enjoy the activities such as children's bingo, adult bingo, arts and crafts and the concerts in the park. We will visit again soon.

Report: This is a great place to go. They have so many great camping spots, with so much to do ex: hiking, biking, fishing, boating, skiing and lots more. The place is clean and safe. I would recommend spending a weekend or even a week there, it's just so relaxing. The only fault I found was to watch the low lying areas if your using a tent they can get really wet. I would give this place on a scale of 1-10 a definite 10.
