American Lake Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This trail can be either strenuous day hike, or a short backpack. It leads to American Lake.
Avalanche Lake Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This is a good backpacking trail, with access to the Hell Roaring Trail, East Creek Trail, West Fork Trail and Capitol Lake. This area is popular with horseback riders, hikers and backpackers.
Castle Creek Road Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This drive is one of the most enjoyable drives in the Aspen area. The paved road follows Castle Creek 13 miles up the valley.
Cathedral Lake Trail Aspen Ranger District,

Cathedral Lake Trail is a difficult day hike and strenuous backpack trip. Cathedral Lake is very scenic with fair fishing.
Difficult Group Site Aspen Ranger District,

Difficult Family Campground is located five miles southeast of Aspen on Highway 82. It has 47 sites with limited spurs to accommodate trailers up to 40'.
East Maroon Trail Aspen Ranger District,

This wilderness trail provides good backpacking opportunities and is also a good horseback trail.
Electric Pass Trail Aspen Ranger District,

This is a difficult day hike and strenuous backpack trip. It is recommended to plan an overnight visit.
Express Creek/Taylor Pass Road Aspen Ranger District,

This is a popular high-altitude jeep route beginning at Express Creek Road. Because of the altitude snow is often present well into mid-July.
Grizzly Lake Trail Aspen Ranger District,

This is a moderate climb with fair fishing at the lake. There is limited camping (stoves ONLY) at the lake. Due to the fragile alpine tundra, it's recommended that you camp below the timberline.
Grottos Day Use Area Aspen Ranger District,

This is a popular area for picnicking and exploring. There is a waterfall, some interesting rock formations, an ice cave, and numerous short trails. This is a great area for families.
Hunter Valley Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
Summer and winter, Hunter Valley is one of the most popular trips from Aspen because of its beauty, accessibility, and peaceful setting. You can spend anywhere from 2 hours to all day on your tour in Hunter Valley.
Independence Pass Area Independence Pass Area,
Aspen Ranger District
The Independence Pass Area is located east of Aspen and offers a high concentration of attractions in a scenic alpine setting. The pass is closed in winter to vehicular traffic with the exception of snowmobiles.
Linkins Lake Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This is a moderately steep but short climb to a high alpine lake above the timberline with fair fishing. Located near the top of Independence Pass.
Lost Man Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This trail is good for hiking and backpacking, also fishing is fair in Independence Lake, Lost Man Lake, and Lost Man Reservoir. The trail is not a complete loop; it is a good idea to set up a shuttle.
Maroon Creek Road Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
Maroon Creek Road leads to Maroon Lake and the Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in the country. This route is good for taking an all day trip with a picnic stop.
Maroon Lake Scenic Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This trail is one of the most heavily used trails in the Aspen area. Hikers and picnickers enjoy the wildflowers and views of the Maroon Bells and Pyramid Peak. A great family day hike with many photographic opportunities.
Maroon-Snowmass Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This trail is one of the most heavily used trails in the Aspen area. Hikers, backpackers and horse travelers enjoy the wildflowers, views and access to other areas within the Wilderness.
Midway Creek Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
This is a great trail for backpacking and horse travel. The trail is mostly in the Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness and is one of the less-used trails in the Aspen area.
Petroleum & Anderson Lakes Trail Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
The Trail follows an old jeep road that is now closed to mechanized vehicles. The trail follows Anderson Creek passing through fir forests then tundra.
Weller Campground Aspen Ranger District,
White River National Forest
Weller Campground is situated in an aspen grove with ten accessible campsites. The campground is located on Independence Pass Road east of the city of Aspen.
